For the second year, the Thermopolis Gun Club has joined forces with Friends of the NRA and Wyoming Game and Fish to bring the program to town. Hot Springs County Recreation office is offering a “Get Golf Ready” program to cover the basic fundamentals of the game, introduce students to golf etiquette and help students learn how to navigate the facility. The program is designed for the beginning adult golfer or for those that have been away from the game for a while and want to get started again. The Wyoming Tourism Board completed its Thermopolis area familiarization tour and board meeting this week, and next week will see the Wyoming State Chamber of Commerce meeting here. The Hot Springs Pioneer Association is continuing a project which began in 1996, recording the histories of Hot Springs County residents. “Memories of the Past, the Next Generations” is an addendum to the original histories that were written about historical figures and families with deep roots and a few generations in Hot Springs County. In recognition of Occupational Therapy Month in April and the work occupational therapists do, the public is invited to a free barbecue at Gottsche on Tuesday, April 24 from 11 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. The meal will be at the Gottsche courtyard, with hamburgers and brats as the main dish with sides like potato salad, beans and pasta salad. It was definitely a packed house with standing room only last Saturday as the Friends of the NRA held their annual Wall of Guns raffle at One Eyed Buffalo. Paul Garbin with Friends of the NRA said they were able to give away four guns, one for every 100 tickets sold. In honor of the Week of the Young Child, the Children’s Resource Center will be holding a trike-a-thon this Saturday morning. Starting at 10 a.m. on April 21 at the pavillion in the State Park, children can come and ride their tricycles. Some youngsters have been getting pledges for riding and all proceeds will go to St. Jude Children’s Hospital. Children do not have to get pledges in order to come join in the fun. During those cold winter months, the Hot Springs County Rec Department hosted a Winter Walk Wyoming from November through February. Participants in the program walked laps at the armory, with corresponding destinations. When they reached a destination, they put their markers on the specific stop, with all stops on a large map at the armory.
