The Hot Springs County High School Speech and Debate Team had an extraordinary weekend at the Greybull tournament, coming home with a second place finish in 3A competition. The Thermopolis Middle School MathCounts team recently placed third at the northwest district competition, qualifying them for state competition hosted by the University of Wyoming's College of Engineering and Applied Science on March 3. Nominations for the 2018 Wyoming Cowboy Hall of Fame (WCHF) will be accepted through Wednesday, Feb. 28. The 2017 Cowboy Hall of Fame saw among its inductees Hot Springs County residents Carl Obe Dockery and Ernest Nathan “Nate” Brown, who was honored posthumously. Inductee qualifications include a minimum age of 65 and at least 45 years in the saddle. The Hot Springs County Republican Convention will be held on March 10 at 9 a.m. at Big Horn Federal. The caucuses were Feb. 17, during which 60 convention delegates were chosen. Their job will be to unify precinct suggestions into the county’s recommendations. The recommendations will them be presented as Hot Springs County’s proposal for consideration during the Wyoming State Republican Convention in Laramie on April 21. Blood draws for the Kiwanis Community Health Fair are scheduled for March 1-3 from 7-10 a.m. at Hot Springs County Memorial Hospital.
