    The University of Wyoming Extension Service is offering a real food class to help you not only save money, but eat healthier this year. The classes begin on Thursday, May 17 at 11 a.m. at the extension office, 328 Arapahoe. During the five weeks of classes, you will learn how to reduce packaged and processed foods you use as well as sugar, plan meals, shop and cook using whole, natural ingredients.     Now that the Hot Springs County Rec District’s Adult Co-ed Basketball League has wrapped up, it’s time to hit the grass for the rec district’s summer softball competition.     Baer McPhie, Trysten DeVries and Timothy Lippincott compete in the annual Pitch, Hit and Run on Friday. The event had three participants, with two boys in the 7-8 age division and one in the 9-10 division.     Around town, particularly in the alleyways, strips of ground are turning blue-green as spraying is done for weeds. Mayor’s Assistant Fred Crosby explained the town contracts with Jim Andreen to spray the alleys and with Tony Larson to do the thistle and dandelions in the parks.     It's time for Gymkhana to get underway again, with the opener this past Saturday at the Hot Springs County Fairgrounds.     May is Foster Care Month, and Kristie Collins, the foster care coordinator with the Department of Family Services (DFS), said there are 13 or 14 homes that provide foster care in Thermopolis. The piece portrays immigrants who came through Ellis Island in the great migration.     May 21-24 marks this year’s annual Spring Clean-Up. Each year the town chooses a week residents can set certain items by the dumpsters for pick up. Property owners are encouraged to clean sidewalks in front of their homes, properties or businesses. The street sweeper will operate during the clean-up to remove debris from streets.     A photo showing the steam rising from the Hot Springs State Park as sun filters through and colors the snowy ground was chosen as Best Photo, Overall in the inaugural WYde Open Spaces Photo Contest hosted by Wyoming State Parks. As it falls on Cinco de Mayo, the prom committee decided on a Cinco de Mayo theme and added some new things to the traditional rite of spring.
