Citizens are invited to a public meeting about an upcoming highway improvement project inside the Thermopolis city limits on Thursday, May 31. The May 31 public meeting will be held at the Thermopolis Fire Hall, 400 S. 14th St., beginning at 6 p.m. The Thermopolis project is scheduled for 2020 or 2021. The Hot Springs County Fairgrounds will be home to the 2018 Hot Springs Junior Livestock Show this Friday at 1 p.m. The order of the show is swine, heifers, beef and lambs. Weigh-ins will be prior to the show, at 10 a.m. for swine, 11 a.m. for cattle and 11:30 a.m. for lambs. Entry fees are $25 per head for swine, $30 per head for cattle and $20 per head for lambs. Hot Springs State Park will be the site for the 26th annual Hot Spot Car Rally on Father’s Day weekend, June 16 and 17. The first rally was at Big T Drive-In on Shoshoni, and featured 34 cars. The event has grown over the years, bringing in 140 or more vehicles some years. We may only be near the end of May, but the Thermopolis Volunteer Fire Department is already thinking about the 4th of July fireworks display and are unfortunately coming up short. According to fire chief Mark Collins, it takes about $12,000 to create a 20-30 minute display. Registrations are now closed for the Hot City Summer Slam 3-on-3 basketball tournament May 26 and 27 in the Hot Springs County High School parking lot. Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) Raegan Stanley, M.S., CCC-SLP from Thermopolis is collaborating in a research study for the University of Wyoming dealing with a treatment technique for Parkinson’s patients. Parkinson’s is a degenerative neurological disease that affects numerous individuals. Stanley states that a common Parkinson’s symptom is speech impairment.
