  • Schrage cookie jar fundraiser set for Saturday

    In the spirit of giving, plan to attend the upcoming cookie jar auction to benefit Sandy Schrage. The auction will be held on Saturday, Dec. 15, from 5:30 p.m. til 11 p.m. at the VFW to help defray medical costs and living expenses. Dinner will include pulled pork and all the fixings.     One of the best ways to get into the Holiday Season is to listen to a little Christmas music, and Hot Springs County schools have you covered. Christmas concerts will kick off with the middle school concert on Dec. 13. It will begin at 7 p.m. at the auditorium. Next on the schedule is the Pre-K concert which will also be held in the auditorium on Dec. 18.     Christmas will soon be here and area churches have special services planned for the season. St. Francis Catholic Church will have a Childrens Pageant on Christmas Eve at 5:30 p.m. followed by mass at 6 p.m. On Christmas day they will celebrate mass at 9 a.m. Holy Trinity Episcopal Church will be celebrating with a Christmas Eve service starting at 10 p.m. Risen Son Southern Baptist Church will have their regular Sunday service on Sunday, the 23rd, but will not have their evening service that day.     The Bighorn Bowhunters are beginning their 2018-19 season, having moved the backstops to the fair building. The season got underway Dec. 4 with an open shoot, and the club will offer animal targets for shooting beginning at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 6.     The Department of Family Services is now taking applications for the annual Elf Tree. Annette Arey with DFS explained if someone feels they will not be able to provide Christmas presents for their children — ages 0-17 — they can stop by the DFS office at 403 Big Horn and pick up an application with pertinent information related to the child and gifts, such as what they would like to receive and clothing size.     The Hot Springs County Senior Center is hosting a reservation only spaghetti dinner fundraiser on Saturday, Dec. 8 from 5:15-6:30 p.m., in conjunction with the Golden Age Club Bingo Night.
