A fan favorite and one of the funniest highlights of the Hot Springs County Fair is the pig wrestling contest. This year, it will be held on Tuesday, July 31 at 7 p.m. at the Hot Springs County Fairgrounds arena. Four person teams do their best to put a pig into a barrel in the midst of a mud hole, making for some slippery pork and dirty contestants. The Big Horn Bowhunters will be hosting a mountain shoot July 7 and 8 in the Big Horn Mountains east of Ten Sleep, on Canyon Creek Road, two miles in from US Highway East 16. Signs will be posted. Registration for the shoot will be 8-11 a.m. on Saturday. Shotgun starts on Sunday at 8 a.m. for registration and 9 a.m. for on targets. This past weekend brought the action of the annual PRCA Cowboy Rendezvous Rodeo to town. The parade saw plenty of entries from businesses, rodeo royalty and individuals. Keeping with the theme of United We Stand, many featured patriotic colors and tributes to veterans and the Armed Forces. The VFW will be home to a cookie jar auction for John Gerrells on Friday, July 13. Gerrells recently underwent colon cancer surgery and also has to have a heart surgery. Gerrells actually began the cookie jar auctions back in 1993, Meredith VanAntwerp said, with the very first done to help the state championship football team to raise money for a trip to Australia. The annual Gift of the Waters pageant is presented the first weekend in August. The Women’s Chorus would welcome new singers. Ellen Mortimore, who began singing in the pageant in 1957 and continued for more than 30 years, is offering rehearsals for new singers beginning the first Sunday of July, the first, starting at 4 p.m. at Community Federated Church. The Hot Springs County Museum will host the “Nick Eggenhofer” gallery opening this Saturday at 2 p.m. The gallery will feature original pieces of western art from Eggenhofer, from dry brush “pulp magazine” illustrations to full color detailed depictions of western life. A plaque recognizing 24 men from Hot Springs County who gave their lives in World War II is passed during a rededication of the memorial grove for the soldiers. The rededication was done by the Hot Springs County Daughters of the American Revolution and VFW Auxiliary, and during the program it was noted many of the original green ash trees in the grove are still standing.
