Every summer residents look forward to the migration of the turtles – the Rotary Turbo Turtle Trek, that is. The 13th Annual Great American Turbo Turtle Trek will be held on Saturday, August 18 at the Big Spring in Hot Springs State Park, starting at 1 p.m. First place prize this year is $1,000 cash with the second place winner taking home $500. Twenty-five students from China had the experience of a lifetime as they got the opportunity to dig for dinosaurs at the Wyoming Dinosaur Center last week. The youngsters are the first of two waves of children from Shanghai, China coming to the center this summer for an immersive educational program based on paleontology and geology. In partnership with the Hot Springs County High School Football program, the Hot Springs County Recreation District is providing a Junior Football Camp program for incoming fifth-eighth grade students. The Liberty Quartet is returning to perform two concerts in Thermopolis at the Federated Community Church on Sunday, Aug. 12, at the 8 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. services. John Gerrells' granddaughter Katie Little and his great-grandson Blevins were among the many volunteers who helped during the fundraiser for Gerrells last Friday evening. This weekend brings alumni from Hot Springs County schools back to their old stomping grounds, sharing memories and old stories fat the All School Reunion.
