Next week Hot Springs County schools will be celebrating National School Lunch Week, Oct. 16-19. Tammy Redland, head cook at the high school, said this week the students are taking an online survey to determine what their favorite lunch is, and that choice will be served next Wednesday. The Hot Springs County High School Drama Club has been working hard on their Fall Showcase along with their procenium piece, in preparation for State Drama, Dec. 1 in Rock Springs. Drama Club director, Mary McGillivray said the students are working on a variety of pieces, both varsity and novice level, including monologues, duets and even some musical theatre pieces, solos and duets. The Riverton Workforce Center, a local office of the Wyoming Department of Workforce Services, has scheduled a Thermopolis services day on Tuesday, Oct. 16 at Hot Springs County Library. Next week, Oct. 7-13, marks National Fire Prevention Week for 2018. Our own Thermopolis Volunteer Fire Department has responded to 77 calls for service so far this year. The T-Town Crusaders are gearing up for what promises to be a fun night with a Hags and Bags Purse Auction, scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 13. The auction will be held at the VFW with dinner from 6-7 p.m., a nacho bar and dessert, with the auction beginning at 7 p.m. Tickets are $12 with just 120 available for purchase. The Friends of the Library will be holding their annual fall book sale on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 19-20 at the armory. Thermopolis was fortunate this past weekend to host the Hunting with Heroes Wyoming, an organization dedicated to giving back to our disabled veterans. The group works with state agencies, local landowners and many, many volunteers to provide hunting opportunities to our veterans from across the country who are at least 50 percent disabled. This year, the Hot Springs County Pioneer Association, also known as the Pioneers, took on a project to engage the community in an effort to document family histories. The Pioneers previously published “Hot Springs County Memories from the Past” in 1996, as well as a supplement to that work in 1998. However, there have been at least two generations who have lived here for which there is no documentation, so the pioneers began soliciting family histories, in story form. Winners of the Homecoming "Mangeant", juniors Riley Shaffer and Tyler Kay, showed off their best assets on Monday. The pair recreated a dance scene from Dirty Dancing, complete with stunt doubles for the lift, and made it very clear they were promoting world peace and saving the polar bears during the interview portion of the pageant. Hot Springs County’s FFA Alumni will be hosting the eighth annual Harvest Moon Ball this Saturday, Sept. 29. Everyone is welcome, it is open to the public. The third annual Hunting with Heroes event is planned for this weekend, Sept. 28 and 29. The number of participants continues to increase for the event, from 10 in 2016, to 11 in 2017, to 14 in 2018. The Hot Springs State Park Bike Your Park event provides an opportunity to celebrate “Bike Your Park Day” with either a casual mountain biking or road biking with discussion of what’s available in the state park.
