    Hot Springs Dance LLC is hosting a father/daughter and mother/son dance at the Community Hall at 244 North Sixth on Friday, Feb. 15 from 5-8 p.m. The cost for the dance is $10 per couple and $5 per each additional child. This includes corsages for the girls, a professional photo, dinner and dessert, as well as dancing with a professional DJ. Attire for the dance is formal/semi formal.     On Feb. 4th the High School Jazz Band, also known as The Jazz Cat Big Band performed at the Kinser Jazz Festival at Casper College. The band had two clinics after their performance with Dr. Scott Turpen from the University of Wyoming and Dr. Lynn Baker from the Lamont School of Music at Denver University.   • Rec. district start smart sports programs begin

    The Hot Springs County Rec Department has started registration for Start Smart Sports, including basketball, soccer and baseball. Registration for basketball runs through Feb. 25. For soccer, the registration ends April 1 and for Baseball, registration needs to be done by May 13. There is a $15 registration fee for all three sports. The program is for all kids from three to five-years old and is a non-competitive, one on one with the child’s parent, which focuses on developing fundamentals of each sport to teach the basics.     The 11th annual Ice Fishing Derby at Meeteetse will by Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 9 and 10, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. each day, at the Upper and Lower Sunshine Reservoirs.     This past weekend, Robotics teams No. 4273, Aluminati, and No. 7238, Fistful of Axles, competed at the Montana State Championship in Bozeman. Coach London Jenks said both teams experienced some robot problems — some mechanical, some programming — but the older students team, Aluminati, came away with a 3-2 record and 18th place and the younger Axles team had a 2-3 record and placed 24th.     The 2019 ice fishing derby at Boysen Reservoir this past weekend saw 320 entrants, falling just two short from the previous year. Fishers competed in categories of trout, perch, crappie, walleye and ling, vying for the biggest catch in each.
