Thermopolis Main Street had a visitor on Tuesday when the National Main Street President, Patrice Frey, stopped in Thermopolis during her summer vacation. A great way to help our deployed troops is to take part in the 6th Annual Freedom Run with the Big Horn Basin Riders. A meet and greet will be held on Friday, July 5 at 7 p.m. at the Oasis Motel and RV Park in Meeteetse, with kickstands going up on Saturday, July 6 at 9 a.m. The first draw for the run will be in Thermopolis, followed by Worland, Ten Sleep Greybull and then back to Meeteetse. Main Street Thermopolis held their annual meeting last week and elected a new slate of board directors. Suzanne Samelson remains president of the group with help from vice president Johnny Dorman. Meri Ann Rush is treasurer and Tracy Linko is the Main Street secretary. Others on the Board of Directors include Howie Samelson, John Dorman, Sr., and Deb Tudor. On June 24, the Rotary Club of Thermopolis hosted a Pass the Gavel party. The parties are held when the current president passes along the gavel to the president-elect. At a barbecue at Wedg and Kathy Taylor’s, President Phillip Scheel passed the gavel to President-Elect Brad Basse. Eight FFA students joined their advisor Britton VanHeule at FFA Leadership Camp in mid-June at the Fremont County Youth Camp near Sinks Canyon. One of the attendees, Spencer Axtell, said one of the things he enjoyed was making new friends. “These are people we’re going to be talking with for a long time,” he said. “I would definitely recommend this to anyone in FFA. The 2019 Tour de Wyoming will be heading out from Thermopolis this year on Sunday, July 14. The tour started in 1997 when 45 riders gathered in Powell for a six-day ride up and over the Bighorn Mountains and has grown into an event featuring hundreds of riders from across the country and Canada.
