Hot Springs County High School’s two robotics teams, 4273 Aluminati and 7283 Fist Full of Axels, competed over Valentine’s Day weekend at the FIRST Tech Challenge, Wyoming State Championships in Casper. Held this year at CY Middle School, the challenge brought robotics teams from all over the state to compete head to head. The Thermopolis Volunteer Fire Department held their annual Fireman's Ball Saturday at the VFW with live music provided by Rattlesnake Ridge. Funds raised at the ball go toward repair and replacement of equipment for the department. At their banquet, just prior to the ball, awards were presented. Ralph Witter's Elementary School held a special flag ceremony for two families whose fathers were deployed overseas in the Middle East. The event idea was sparked by RWE's secretary Connie Dickinson, who received a package from a former student. Friends and family gathered at the Wyoming Pioneer Home Sunday, February 16 to help Al Jackson celebrate his 100th birthday. Jackson was born in Burlington, Wyo., and grew up there until he was 14. For fun, he would ride horses. When he was a teenager, he went on a thirty-day pack trip with some young girls on a valley dude ranch. He did this for three years in a row. Holy Trinity Episcopal Church will be holding their annual Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper on Tuesday, Feb. 25. Marking the beginning of the Lenten Season, the supper is prepared entirely by the men of the church and is an event many look forward to each year. They will begin serving at 4:30 p.m. and will serve until they are out of pancakes, generally around 6:30 p.m. Cost for the meal is $5 for adults or $15 for a family. Hot Springs County High School’s Speech and Debate team brought home their third first place win of the season from the Jackson Hole tournament last Saturday. Putting up 50 points, the Bobcats were actually third overall for the tournament behind Riverton and Natrona.
