The Hot Springs County Sheriff’s Office has been handling several fraud cases and wants to help educate the public to be aware of fraud scams before they become a victim. Deputy Casey Freund has been involved in four fraud cases so far this year and, depending on the case, has been collaborating with the FBI in their investigations. Charlie and Kim Smith recently opened a new cafe restaurant at the stoplight, the 7 Lazy S Cafe. It’s located in the old Elle’s Restaurant and Bar/Thermopolis Cafe location at 109 South 6th Street. The name 7 Lazy S comes from Charlie’s brand when he ran cows. They serve a traditional American cafe menu. Hours are 6 a.m. until 2 p.m. Thursdays through Mondays. Raymond Eldon Maret, 91, passed away on Wednesday, November 24, 2021. Ray was born September 15, 1930, on a ranch near Thermopolis, Wyo., and attended school there, graduating from Hot Springs County High School in 1948. After a couple of years at University of Wyoming, he joined the National Guard and served in the Korean War, where he was injured by an exploding shell. After a long recovery in the hospital, he returned to the University of Wyoming and earned a Masters degree in Geology in 1956, and graduated at the top of his class. Ray... Full story
June Robinson Mueller, 99, passed away December 12, 2021, at her home in Horicon, Wis. June was the daughter of H. A. and Arlene Robinson of Thermopolis, Wyo. June met and married Kenneth V. Mueller during World War II. They raised their family in Ken’s hometown of West Bend, Wis. June is survived by her children, Karen Mueller of West Bend, Sue Mueller and Steve Mueller both of Madison, and Linda (Ric) Watson of Horicon; and her brother, Keith (Josie) Robinson of Littleton, Colo. Bobcat boys basketball varsity and junior varsity teams both got wins on Saturday at home. The varsity team had a blow out against Glenrock with a final score of 72-28. There were four Bobcats that contributed to buckets by shooting into the double digits. Passing, spacing and off ball movement had improved tremendously this week helping the Cats with the win. The Bobcat Speech and Debate team competed in the 2021 Cheyenne East Holiday Classic, which had 800+ entries from 19 states and 3 countries. Jean-Luc Willson was one spot out from breaking into semifinals in Extemporaneous Speaking. He finished 10th in a huge group of varsity Extemporaneous speakers. Josiah Butler finished in the top 15 of Extemporaneous Speaking. Jean-Luc and Josiah both finished 3-1 in Lincoln-Douglas Debate. The Thermopolis Bobcat Wrestlers went to the Battle of the Big Horns with the numbers not on their side as 10 wrestlers were not able to participate due to illness. The thirteen wrestlers that were able to attend had three duals on Friday winning against Buffalo and the #2 seated Warriors. The Bobcats lost to Pinedale on Friday who ended up with 2nd in the Gold bracket against Star Valley. The Lady Bobcats varsity team took on Glenrock on home turf this past weekend walking away with the win, 45-38. The Lady Cats came from behind utilizing teamwork and were able to get the win.
