Robert W. "Bob" Birch, 83, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 13, 2015, at the Quarry in Vancouver, Wash. Bob was born in Worland, Wyo., on July 18, 1932, to Thomas L. and Pearl Schlosser Birch, the youngest of seven children. His father was a farmer and his mother was a teacher. The Birch family moved to Lucerne where Bob completed grade school. He graduated from Hot Springs County High School in Thermopolis in 1949 and was Valedictorian of his graduating class. Ruby McQueen Whitaker Bucher, 88, lifetime pioneer resident of Wyoming, passed away November 20, 2015, in Thermopolis. Ruby was born January 3, 1927, on the Henry Freudenthal ranch on Owl Creek, daughter of Dub McQueen (1902-1955) and Lillian Freudenthal McQueen (1904-2004). She was delivered by grandmother Jeanetta McGraugh Freudenthal. Ruby was raised on the McGirr place on Cottonwood Creek, formally the Camp place. William John “Bill” Metzger, 84, passed away Saturday, November 21, 2015, in Thermopolis after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease. Born January 21, 1931, in Newark, N. J., he was the son of William and May (Hall) Metzger. After graduating from high school he worked with his father as a carpenter. He then became a police officer in Hillside, N.J., serving until retirement in 1981. He married Adelle C. Senker in Hillside, N.J. and the couple was married 44 years until her death in 2006. The Big Horn Basin Foundation and The Wyoming Dinosaur Museum are inviting students in first through eighth grade to come and watch a movie at the dinosaur museum on Friday. The movie is the great classic from the 80s, “The Goonies.” It is about a group of misfit kids who set out on an adventure to find a pirate’s ancient treasure in order to save their homes from being foreclosed upon. The Thermopolis Community Fund Christmas Tree Festival is scheduled for December 3, 2015 at the Wyoming Dinosaur Center. Dinner starts at 5:30 p.m. with the auction to follow at 6:15 p.m. Red Rock Family Practice and the Wyoming Dinosaur Center will host the event There will be 17 trees and 13 wreaths to be auctioned off.
