On Monday, Hot Springs County School District #1 (HSCSD #1) Superintendent Dustin Hunt advised parents and others the district is moving to digital learning immediately. HSCSD #1 moved to a Tier 3 digital platform beginning Tuesday, November 17 until at least December 1. Hunt said there will be no in person classes for the time being. Public Health Order 2020-3 requiring all adults within Hot Springs County, Wyoming, to wear face coverings in certain places open to the public, with exceptions, took effect on Wednesday, Nov. 18. COVID-19 cases statewide and in Hot Springs County are reportedly on the rise. Hot Springs is one of eight counties in Wyoming that recently made requests to the Wyoming Department of Health to enact local mask orders. Wyoming regulators voted 4-1 on Nov. 10 to permit Aethon Energy to pump millions of gallons of pollutants into an underground aquifer near Shoshoni that critics say is too valuable to pollute. Alfred "Al" Vallee, 87, passed away Sat., November 14, 2020, at Hot Springs County Memorial Hospital in Thermopolis after a period of declining health. Born April 26, 1933, in Chicago, Ill., he was one of two children of George and Florence (Wallenstein) Vallee. Following school, he was self-employed as a painting contractor and later as a wild game processor. On June 13, 1979, he married Karen Worley in Chicago. John Melvin "Johnny" Love, 77, passed away Nov. 11, 2020, from complications of Vascular Dementia. He was born March 22, 1943, in Thermopolis, Wyo., to Melvin and Pearl (Osborn) Love. He grew up on the family ranch on Owl Creek. On Oct. 30, 1965, he married Janis Weeks in Thermopolis, Wyo. George Henry Yetter, 87, passed away Nov. 9, 2020, at Thermopolis Rehabilitation and Wellness. George was born Feb. 23, 1933, in Oshkosh Neb., to William and Mabel (Baird) Yetter. George was one of eight children. George served in the Army from 1953 to 1955. He worked various jobs in his lifetime. Wanda Jean Crumpler, passed away Saturday, November 14, 2020, at Hot Springs County Memorial Hospital. She was born on October 24, 1932, in Walnut Springs, Texas. The Cookie Jar Auction Benefits planned for two individuals have been effected by COVID-19 concerns. The benefit for Wade Milek to get a trained service dog to help with his epilepsy seizures has been moved to an online auction at Wade Milek Online Auction Benefit via Facebook. The Thermopolis FFA Chapter has received a $2,000 grant from Farm Credit Services. The funds will be used for students conducting an Agriscience Fair experiment. In order to receive funds, students filled out a grant request and submitted it to chapter advisor, Becky Martinez. Funds will be given to students this coming week to purchase items needed for their research.
