Roads were closed for over five hours through Wind River Canyon on Saturday, after a wreck that occurred at a 2:20 p.m. at milepost 116 on Highway 20 in Fremont County, inside the north tunnel in the canyon. A jackknifed semi tractor-trailer blocked both lanes of travel. The roads were closed until the wreckers removed the damaged vehicles. Hot Springs County Assessor Daniel Webber announced today that currently qualified Hot Springs County veterans or their surviving spouse should contact the Assessor’s Office by telephone to renew their Veteran’s Exemption for 2018 on their property taxes. If applicants will be using the exemption for vehicle licensing, they will need to stop by the Assessor’s Office when they come in the courthouse to renew their registration. Ross Russell Rhodes, 72, passed away surrounded by family and friends on Sunday, Jan. 21, 2018. He was born on March 5, 1945, to Frank M. and Betty (Loman) Rhodes in Meeteetse, Wyo. The first few years of his life, he lived in Meeteetse until his parents bought the Puntney Place on Cottonwood Creek outside of Thermopolis. This past weekend, Thermopolis was home to the 2018 Wyoming Farm Bureau (WFB) Young Farmer & Rancher Conference. This year's theme was "Springing Outward and Upward." Last Thursday, several vehicles were parked in the 400 block of Broadway, their occupants in Thermopolis Town Hall for a pre-bid meeting regarding the water line replacement project. The Hot Springs County Pioneer Association (Pioneers) recently announced the launch of a new project to engage the community in a historical effort to document family histories. The Pioneers have previously published a work called “Hot Springs County Memories from the Past” in 1996, and a supplement to that effort in 1998. It was a mixed bag for the Lady Bobcat basketball team last week as they topped the Lady Warriors from Worland on Thursday in a nail biter, 53-48, then lost to the Buffalo Lady Buffs on Friday 75-37. The Thermopolis Lady Cat JV basketball team met Worland and Buffalo this past weekend while the “froshmore” (freshman-sophomore mixed) team took on Buffalo. Last week, the Thermopolis boys JV basketball team had a rough time with a 58-40 loss to Worland and a 54-29 lost to Buffalo.
