Unofficial results are in, and Hot Springs County voters passed both of the two propositions concerning Hot Springs County Memorial Hospital in Tuesday’s general election. On the proposition to form a special hospital district there were 1,688 votes in favor and 890 votes against. On the proposition for the creation of a one percent specific purpose sales and use excise tax there were 1,643 votes for and 947 votes against. After much anticipation, the master plan for Hot Springs State Park was unveiled last Thursday by State Parks and Cultural Resources Director Darin Westby. The gathering was held at the Wyoming Dinosaur Center with a standing room only crowd. The sixth annual Harvest Moon Ball is set for Saturday, Nov. 12 at the Hot Springs County Fair Building. The ball is open to the public and features dancing, food and will honor local ag citizens. The 2016 Century Ranch Award will be presented to the Grobowski/Beltz family. John Grobowski first purchased 112 acres of land on the upper owl creek to raise cows and put up hay. Hawk’s Avenue of Flags will be going up on Veterans Day, Friday, Nov. 11 beginning at 8 a.m. at Monument Hill Cemetery. The memorial was created in memory of Airman First Class Donald L. “Hawk” Hawkins, by his wife Betty Hawkins and daughter Julie Lehman, but it is for all veterans. Monument Hill Cemetery was chosen because it is where Hawk was laid to rest. The 2016 general election proved to be a nail biter across the nation as states went from red to blue then back to red or vice versa in some cases. The race for President of the United States was so close in some states they could not be called even with over 95 percent of precincts reporting. Jack T. Skates, 89, of Cody, Wyo., passed away on November 3, 2016. Jack was born in Carlin, S. D., on April 17, 1927, to Walter and Ruth Carlin Skates. His early childhood was spent in Eagle Butte, S.D.; the family moved to Billings, Mont., when he was 9. Jack proudly served in the Navy during WWII. Upon returning to Billings, Mont., he met and married Doreen Knaub on April 10, 1948. In 1952, the family moved to Cody, Wyo., where Jack began his career at Steck's IGA, and later went into... Mary (Brown) Slane, 74, passed away on Thursday, September 22, 2016, after battling cancer. Mary was born November 16, 1941, in Thermopolis, Wyo., to James and Priscilla Brown. She grew up on the family ranch on Owl Creek in Thermopolis with siblings Charlotte Hart, Roberta Braton, Jimmie Williams and Clint Brown. Traffic delays of up to 15 minutes are continuing on U.S. 20/Wyoming 789 through Wind River Canyon as scaling of rocks, cleaning culverts, reshaping ditches and other work enters its fourth week. The Thermopolis Community Blood Drive by United Blood Services will be from 3-7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 14 at the Hot Springs County Senior Center. A benefit for the Tom Lea family will be held at Thermopolis Middle School on Friday, Nov. 11. Lea, who worked with the Hot Springs County School District in the bus garage, passed suddenly and the family could use help with final expenses. Along with a chili feed with all the fixings, there will be a silent auction and bake sale courtesy of the bus garage employees.
