The new Hot Springs County Airport grand opening is slated to take place Saturday, Nov 7. The Hot Springs County Commissioners discussed for the last time the final preparations for the new county airport, set to open on Nov. 7. The airport project, which formally began October 16, 2012, passed Wyoming Department of Transportation Aeronautics Division and Federal Aviation Administration inspections last week “with flying colors,” according to GDA engineer Jeremy Gilb. Dennis Leonhardt of Finishing Touches saw the need to keep a towing service in town and purchased what was formally known as Auto and RV Specialties. Howell “Chris” Coleman Downs, 73, passed away on October 27, 2015. Chris fought a hard and courageous battle with cancer and died peacefully at the Spirit Mountain Hospice House surrounded by his family. Chris was born on December 25, 1941, to Mary Hester and David Downs, in Cato, Ark. His mother remarried Paul Tomkins, whom Chris fondly remembered and considered as his father. Shirley Morgan, president of the Hot Springs County Memorial Hospital auxiliary, describes her service to the auxiliary as a “circle of life”, volunteerism supports the hospital staff, which in turn helps members of this community. However, volunteerism at the hospital auxiliary has been declining so much that Morgan has trouble staffing the hospital gift shop.
