Moonlight Madness is returning to the streets of downtown Thermopolis on Thursday, October 28 with fun events for all. The Masons will serve tacos from 4:30-7 p.m. at the Masonic Hall. The Elf Tree Program is designed to help Hot Springs County families in need with a little extra in the way of Christmas gifts for their children. Parents or guardians may sign up their children, ages birth -17 years old, Nov 1 - Dec 10 at the Department of Family Services, 403 Big Horn. The Christmas Baskets Program started in about 1982 at NOWCAP, moved to the Elks, then to the Episcopal Church. Business status and auditing are now provided by the Episcopal Church. “Christmas Baskets” is a non-denominational program that serves anyone in need of food and has people from the whole community who volunteer to help with the set-up and distribution. Ralph "Duke" Lee Allen, 74, passed away Monday, October 11, 2021, at Hot Springs Health in Thermopolis. Born March 21, 1947 in Lander, Wyo., he was one of four children of Marvin and Dorothy (Shroyer) Allen. Raised on the Pitchfork Ranch near Meeteese, Wyo., the family later moved to Cheyenne where Duke graduated from high school. He served in the U.S. Army. Lourena E. Kirby passed away on October 12, 2021. She was married to Brandon Kirby and together they resided in Thermopolis for many years. In 2004 Lourena moved to Sheridan, Wyo., to live with her sister, Zora Kirby. Lourena was born May 25, 1923, in Nebraska, later moving to Pavillion, Wyo., with her parents Gertie and Ora Wells. The Bobcat football team had a solid performance on Friday evening when they took on the visiting Pinedale Wranglers. The Bobcats took a 28-0 lead into half time, and were able to play some young players late in the game and come away with a 42-20 win. The Bobcat Cross Country team competed in the 2A Wyoming State Championships in Ethete on Saturday, Oct. 23. Senior Hallie Martinez was the top finisher for the Lady Cats. She crossed the finished line with a time of 22:55.01, finishing 12th.
