    For the 2 Legit 2 Hit team in the Hot Springs County Recreation District’s Adult Co-ed Volleyball league, Oct. 2 was a night of triumph and defeat. The team won against Lord Have MRSA in the first match of the evening, 25-3, 25-11 and 25-12, though came up on the losing side against Gassed by Gottsche, which outscored them 25-20, 25-15 and 25-19.     The Lady Bobcat volleyball team saw a lot of court time this past week between playing Lovell at home, then away in Lander, followed by two days of their home tournament. Against Lovell, the varsity team swept them away in three (25-20, 25-17, 25-23) while the JV and freshman teams both won in two games against the Bulldogs.     Beginning with the girls middle school basketball program in the fall of 2019 Hot Springs County School District #1 and Thermopolis Middle School have agreed to let sixth grade student-athletes try-out for the remaining positions on the girls and boys middle school basketball teams. Each team will allow 30 participants and however short each team is after counting seventh and eighth graders, sixth graders will be given a chance to fill those positions.     The Cool Criterium Bike Race in the buffalo pasture scheduled for Saturday, October 12 has been cancelled, though the event is currently rescheduled for Aug. 22, 2020 The race was planned as a 1.63 mile, one-hour race with prizes for the top three winners in both the men’s and women’s divisions.     Many parents in Hot Springs County have been wondering if the Lights On Afterschool Program will return to what it was the past few years with various clubs and outside interests for students. According to Julia Scott, Lights On Coordinator, in the past, the school district and after school program have had a continuation of funding available through Cohort 12 grant funds, but this year are not eligible for the Cohort 12 funds so “we’ve never been in this position before.” Scott said an application for Cohort 13 funding was submitted in Augus... Full story

  • Arrests made following fire

    On Oct. 7 there was a residential fire reported at 2569 US Hwy 20 in Washakie County. Emergency services and law enforcement personnel from the Worland Fire Department, Hot Springs County Fire Department, Washakie County Ambulance, Wyoming Highway Patrol and Washakie County Sheriff’s Office responded to the location. The fire department agencies were able to gain control of the fire and it was extinguished. An investigator from the Wyoming State Fire Marshal’s Office was contacted and responded to the location.
