Last week the Hot Springs County Commissioners approved the transfer of a liquor license from Stones Throw Restaurant back to the Legion Town and Country Club, dba Thermopolis Golf Course. Over the weekend, two Thermopolis residents were inducted into the Wyoming Cowboy Hall of Fame during a ceremony in Laramie. Carl Obe Dockery was born on Owl Creek in 1936 and raised there by parents Clifford and Edna. Russ Dowdy has retired from the Wyoming Department of Transportation after 24 years with the Thermopolis maintenance crew. "It's been a good run," Dowdy said at his retirement luncheon on Sept. 21. Dowdy was born in Greeley, Colo. He graduated from Hot Springs County High School in Thermopolis in 1973. October 1-7 is National 4-H Week, celebrating and showcasing the incredible experiences that 4-H offers young people. In Hot Springs County there are 128 children, from the 5-7-year old Cloverbuds to the 8-18-year old regular 4-H members. Of course, 4-H wouldn’t be possible without the help of a bevy of volunteers. The Thermopolis-Hot Springs Chamber of Commerce is excited to be hosting the Antique Stroll Show with John Sollo on Saturday, October 14 from 10 a.m. til 2 p.m. at the Hot Springs County Museum and Cultural Center. On Friday and Satruday, Thermopolis will again be home to veterans from across the state and country for the 2017 Hunting with Heroes event. The 2018 Wyoming Legislature reconvenes on February 12, 2018 to begin the budget session. Many legislators have shared publicly they have no interest in addressing the shortfall in state education funding with additional revenue sources. Geneva Marie (Gaskill) Hanson passed away peacefully on August 30, 2017, in Colorado Springs, Colo. She was born in Newcastle, Wyo., on July 10, 1937, to Clinton Owen and Ruth Marie Gaskill. Geneva grew up on a ranch where she learned to work hard and to treasure the people she loved. The Lady Cats volleyball team had a busy weekend hosting the Wheatland Lady Bulldogs on Friday evening and the Torrington Lady Trailblazers on Saturday afternoon. Hot Springs County High School Football opened conference play with a game against Wheatland Friday night. Coach Matt McPhie said the boys played a good team and lost 35-14. “We came out and started strong taking an early lead 14-6 in the first quarter,” McPhie said, “but in the end, Wheatland made more plays than we did and had more timely stops than we did. The Wyoming High School Athletics Association recently released the 2017 Class of All State participants in high school golf. For the fourth year in a row, Bobcat Hudson Roling has been named to the All State team. As a freshman in 2014, Roling placed fourth in 2A, making him one of the top ten who received All State honors after playing in Worland. Part of Homecoming week for the Bobcats is the cross country team’s home meet on Saturday, starting at 9 a.m. at the golf course. During the Tuesday evening meeting of the Hot Springs County Memorial Hospital Board of Trustees, Dr. Jason Weyer reported the big day — Oct. 1 — is coming up with regard to Title 25 patients. Starting that day, the hospital will no longer accept Title 25 patients as the hospital is not an appropriate facility for that.
