    Squaw Teat Butte is the only geographic location in Hot Springs County included on the U.S. Department of Interior’s list of 643 federal geographical locations nationwide and 41 on Wyoming federal lands that have been assigned new names that include the word “Squaw.” The new name is Sugar Butte. The Board on Geographic Names (BNG) recently voted on the final replacement names, the final step in the efforts to remove a term from federal use that is considered offensive and a sexist slur by some, particularly Indigenous women.     There was gold at the end of the rainbow for the Bobcats Golf Team. The boys team repeated as 5 time, 2A state champions. The boys shot a 360 on Friday and an amazing 338 on Saturday for a total score of 698. Second place Upton had a final score of 721, followed by third place Kemmerer with 727.     The Wyoming Department of Transportation has issued a reminder that all items, including signs and lights, cannot be placed in the state right of way or on state right of way fences. The state “right of way” is the strip of land next to the roadway that is either owned by the government, or held by the government through a permanent easement so the highway can legally pass through an area.     On September 16-17, remote control airplane pilots and enthusiasts from throughout the region gathered at the Hot Springs County Airport to fly their model planes. Twenty-one pilots came from Riverton, Billings, and elsewhere to participate. The weather was pleasant, and many pilots commented it wasn't too hot.     On September 16, at approximately 6:06 p.m. hours, Hot Springs County Search and Rescue responded to a report of an injured person near Cottonwood Peak, in the Wilderness area of the Shoshone National Forest. The original report was made on the scene through a Garmin inReach device.     The Thermopolis Rotary Club will hold their Putt Putt For Polio fundraiser event on Saturday, October 8 at Dairyland beginning at 9 a.m. and ending around 4 p.m. in time for the Chamber of Commerce Banquet.     It is with shock and disbelief that we sadly report the untimely death of Monte Lee Becker, age 59. He passed away on the 6th of September, 2022. He and his son Pascal were working at the Intricate Bay Lodge in Iliamna, Alaska, for the summer. Monte began experiencing shortness of breath a few months ago while in Chile, and while he wouldn't say anything his family noticed.     John Daniel Dodge, 96, passed Wednesday, September 14, 2022, at Hot Springs Health following a period of declining health. Born September 9, 1926, in Casper, Wyo., he was one of eight children of Elijah C. and Rose (Borchers) Dodge. The family lived in Alcova during the time the dam was built. They moved to Thermopolis in 1938 where John graduated from High School. From 1944-1948 he served in the Army Air Corps in Europe. Colleen was born in Thermopolis, Wyo., on January 3, 1942, to Bertha Alita (Howard) Fisher and Ellis Radford Fisher JR. Colleen was sister to Clyde, Gail, Debbie and Joy Fisher.
