The varsity Bobcat golfers tested their mettle against the Absaroka Conference last week on the beautiful Buffalo Golf Course. The Lady Bobcat varsity and JV volleyball teams played their home tournament last weekend which included teams from Little Snake River, Farson-Eden, Greybull, Wheatland, Pinedale, Torrington, Big Piney, Shoshoni, Wind River, Meeteetse, Kemmerer, Wyoming Indian and Riverside. The Girls Varsity Cross Country team brought home first place from the Berry Bryant Invite at Riverton. Coach Brenna Abel stated, “Our varsity girls had a great day in Riverton. We had excellent running conditions and a flat course which did allow our teams to run well.” Abel further noted Elizabeth Rhodes had a great day with a career personal record of 25:41, as did Olivia Weyer, with a time of 23:57. The Hot Springs County High School football team is still on the hunt for their first win of the season, having fallen to the Wheatland Bulldogs 47-6 at their first home game last Friday. This week will see the Bobcats in action on the road again, as they head to Moorcroft to take on the Wolves. Bobcat spirit will be in full force this coming week with a variety of Homecoming activities planned. This year’s theme is “City Nights”. Things kick off on Monday with students having an “elderly” dress up day at the high school. Four Thermopolis riders competed in the Wyoming National Barrel Horse Association (NBHA) championships Sept. 16-18 in Rock Springs. Thermopolis Middle School 7th and 8th grade volleyball teams took on both Riverton and Lander over the weekend, setting and surpassing some team goals. According to coach Cortney O’Connor, the 8th grade “A” team and “B” team both lost to Riverton in two straight games. O’Connor said the Lander match was a little closer, with the A team winning the first set, but dropping the next two. An Augustana alumnus, McPhie played college football and did some coaching before leaving the game to pursue some business opportunities, get married and start his family.
