Early this summer the students involved in the Youth Alternatives Program along with local citizens, went out on East River Road and cleaned up tons of trash, televisions, furniture and all manner of "targets" from an area known as TV Draw. A Thermopolis family is in mourning after the suicide death of their young nephew in Denver, Colo., a story that has been all over the National news. Christine and Jeff Miller are the aunt and uncle of Jamel Myles, the nine-year old who committed suicide just four days into his fourth grade year because of bullying. Those looking to take in a soak at the Hot Springs State Park Bath House next week will have to wait, as the building will be closed for construction Sept. 10-14. Park Superintendent Kevin Skates said the entire HVAC system needs replaced and workers will have to be in the roof and in the locker rooms, so closing the building is much simpler than trying to have the work done around visitors. The newspaper industry let out a huge sigh of relief this past week as the U.S. International Trade Commission overturned an administrative decision imposing tariffs on Canadian newsprint that went into effect in January. That tariff could have ultimately caused newspapers across the country to raise their prices by nearly double or create layoffs of reporters, photographers and other staff to make up for the cost. Eugene Phillip "Gene" Lambert, Jr, 71, passed away Sunday, August 19, 2018, at his residence in Thermopolis, Wyo., following a period of declining health. Born August 28, 1946, in Denver, Colo., he was the son of Eugene and Gloria (Golden) Lambert. After high school he served in the US Marine Corps from 1964-1968. Staff at Hot Springs County Memorial Hospital will have a smoother time calling for life flight services with the hospital’s new “easy button.” Hospital CEO Margie Molitor explained the button allows emergency room staff to immediately call the Wyoming Medical Center life flight service. The Bobcat golf team went over the mountain last Thursday for the Buffalo Invitational Golf Tourney. Coach Joey Johnson said the Buffalo course is the hardest the team has played so far this year and their first day scores reflected that. The Bobcat football team was dealt a heavy blow last Friday with a 43-0 loss on the road against Big Horn. Coach Matt McPhie said the Bobcats dug a hole for themselves early on in the game, giving up 29 points in the first 14 minutes.
