Recent state budget cuts have affected Wyoming Department of Family Services programs, specifically LIEAP and WAP. LIEAP (Low Income Energy Assistance Program) is a program that is both state and federally funded to help low income people pay home heating bills November through June. The program helps cover the costs of electricity, propane, natural gas, diesel heating, wood, oil, coal and pellets when used for heating a home. The Hot Springs County Sheriff’s Office and Thermopolis Police Department teamed up Monday at about 7:50 p.m. to stop a driver coming into town at over 100 miles per hour. Sheriff Lou Falgoust said Deputy Daniel Eggli clocked a red 2005 Toyota Corolla travelling 109 mph at mile marker 1 on Highway 120, and turned around to give pursuit. Everett Eugene Andreen, 80, passed away Saturday, August 20, 2016, at Platte County Memorial Hospital in Wheatland. One of 13 children, he was the son of Frank and Lucille (Gifford) Andreen and was born May 23, 1936, in old Thermopolis. In the early 1950s he served in the U.S. Army for three years. Returning to Thermopolis, Everett worked for farmers in Thermopolis and Meeteetse. He later became a railroad track inspector for Burlington Northern, retiring after 29 years. Mervyn E. "Gene" Beck, 89, of Mesa, Ariz., passed away August 16, 2016. Gene retired from Farm Equipment Sales and Farm Management after 45 years of employment.
