It was an evening of crashing and bashing last Saturday night as the Thermopolis Demolition Derby took over the fairgrounds. Joseph Martin outlasted the other drivers to win the $3,000 first place prize. Wyatt Ramsey claimed the second place prize of $1,500 with Randy Maynard coming in third and Chase Mead finishing fourth. The Mad Dog Winner was Payton Gonzalez. Joey Lance Johnson, 51, passed away Saturday, August 7, 2021, at his home in Thermopolis surrounded by family and close friends. He fought a courageous battle against pancreatic cancer. Born January 21, 1970, in Newcastle, Wyo., he was the son of Garry and Barbara (McDaniel) Johnson. With fond memories of his childhood, Joey graduated from Newcastle High School, then attended Casper College earning several national awards in livestock judging. Karsten L. Nettles, 83, passed away at Hot Springs Health, August 11, 2021, in Thermopolis. He was born February 24, 1938, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, the son of Denver and Vivian (Free) Nettles. Following high school he served in the US Army from 1957-1961. On April 8, 1957 he married Mary LaRue Hobbs in Elko, Nev. Prior to her death, the couple was married 52 years. Anna Amelia Schmidt Lewis, longtime Cody, Wyo., resident, peacefully passed away in Bozeman, Mont., on Tuesday, July 13, 2021, after an extended battle with head and neck cancer. Anna was born Jan. 1, 1946, at the Lovell, Wyo., hospital, seconds after midnight. Arley Love, 83, passed away peacefully on May 17, 2021, surrounded by his family, at Hot Springs Health, after a long, valiant fight with cancer. He soldiered through his last few months, still determined to take care of his own home and yard. Although he was willing to begin another round of cancer treatments, sadly, his body said, "no more."
