  • Bringing it together

    Dennis Nierzwicki|Aug 16, 2018

Saturday morning saw an outpouring of community pride as people climbed Monument Hill to rebuild the monument that was previously knocked down by vandals. Rather than building one large monument, those who made the climb chose to create three smaller markers. The hill is not only a unique opportunity for residents and visitors - as those who make the climb can sign their names and enjoy a view of the area - it also stands as a testament to those who have experienced the hot springs, as it was... Full story

One of the issues was overweight animals not being allowed in the ring for the final shows. Daniel Webber was very vocal that his son, after taking first place in his division, was told as he was leaving the ring that he could not be in the final show because his animal was overweight. • Teachers making a difference everyday

    Cindy Glasson, Reporter Photographer|Aug 16, 2018

The old joke about the best three things about being a teacher – June, July and August – is pretty outdated these days. No longer do teachers take the summer off, only to return to their classrooms a week or two before classes start to decorate the bulletin boards and make seating charts. These days, teachers spend their time facilitating the summer Lights On programs, providing summer school instruction, working in their classrooms, collaborating with their grade level and content team mem...

  • Big Springs flows holding steady

    Cindy Glasson, Reporter Photographer|Aug 16, 2018

For many years there have been concerns about the flow of the mineral water through Hot Springs State Park. A data collection chart dating back to 2006 shows the actual ebb and flow of not only the Big Spring, but the Maytag and Sacajawea Wells. Of course, the flows change from month to month, some years staying pretty steady, yet others show considerable jumps in the flow as well as marked drops. At the Big Spring itself, flows in January of this year were 1886.66 gpm (gallons per minute),...
