The application for state officers is usually due at the end of March and then in-person interviews are in April at the state convention. Hot Springs County School District’s Board of Directors held a special meeting last week to approve budget amendments, pay final bills and approve the hiring of three new members of the district’s team. Katie Despain was approved as a new hire to be a summer food service cook, Cassidy VanKirk was hired as RWE SpEd paraprofessional along with Kacey Cahill, also hired as an RWE SpEd paraprofessional. The Thermopolis Chamber of Commerce will hold its Meet the Candidates event on Monday, July 20 at 6:30 p.m. in the Hot Springs State Park Pavillion. They have sent out invitations to all national, state and local candidates for the coming election and are waiting for RSVPs. Thermopolis Cowboy Rendezvous Committee will hold a Ranch Rodeo on July 18 at 6 p.m. at the Hot Springs County Fairgrounds. The events will be team doctoring, wild cow milking, branding, ribbon roping, trailer loading, hide racing and wild cow riding. Frank Lutz, 65, passed away Friday, July 3, 2020, in Thermopolis. Born April 5, 1955, in Coatesville, Pa., he was the son of Frank and Francis (Miller) Lutz. He graduated from Downingtown High School in 1973. On August 28, 1982 he married Sheila Stuart and the couple has three children, Jason, Nicole and Jessica. Helen Frances Todorovich Castro passed away peacefully June 27, 2020, in Thousand Oaks, Calif., with her son and daughter by her side. Helen was born in Gebo, Wyo., on November 14 (year unknown per her wishes) to Eli & Nellie Todorovich. Harold Damm, 92, passed away Friday, July 3, 2020, at Thermopolis Rehabilitation and Wellness. Born January 4, 1928, in Froid, Mont., he was the son of Jacob and Maria (Brese) Damm. On June 30, 1950, he married Edith Almond in Sidney, Mont. To this union was born three children. The couple first came to Thermopolis around 1960, settling there a short time later. Rocky Mountain Power customers have reported receiving a spike in fraudulent calls from scammers posing as utility representatives. According to reports, the caller insists that the customer is behind on their bill and demands payment within 30 minutes to avoid disconnection. Hot Springs County’s Land Use Planning Commission has been working on revisions to the land use plan for quite some time and is now ready to hold a public hearing and comment period.
