At the May 3 Thermopolis Town Council meeting held at the Town Hall, Jackie Dorothy from Travel and Tourism presented to the council their joint project of installing a digital sign at the fairgrounds. Dorothy reported that the Tourism Board, the Fair Board, and the Rec Board have raised $70,000 for the $120,000 needed. They still need $50,000. On the night of May 6, one or more people entered the bentonite mine off of Missouri Flat Road and began tampering with equipment. The suspects ultimately tipped over a portable pumping unit into a pond causing an estimated $30,000 worth of damage. Evidence was collected and sent to the State Crime Lab. Doug and Jared Nichols of Nichols Construction prepared the window frames of the Masonic Hall for new glass as it undergoes renovations. According to Eric Kay, the grant that paid for the work came from the National Main Street Center, which is a subsidy of the National Trust for Historic Preservation. The 2022 Gymkhana Series kicks off Saturday, May 14 at Hot Springs County Fairgrounds. Competitors can enter beginning at 9 a.m. Events include barrels, poles, goat tying, flag race and a fun event. The Hot Springs County Historical Society will hold a program by Laura Vietti called “Tropical Tapirs in Wyoming: The Origins, Evolutions, and Preservation of Wyoming’s Most Recent Fossil Tapir Discovery” following their May meeting on Saturday , May 14 at 2 p.m. at the Historical Museum. The Hot Springs County High School Graduation Ceremony will be Sunday, May 15 beginning at 2 p.m. in the HSCHS gymnasium. The ceremony for the class of 2022 will include 45 seniors who will be receiving their high school diplomas. Jacob Randall is the class valedictorian and Jean-Luc Willson is class salutatorian. Brooks Kaapuni Sing Luke, 85, passed away at his home on Tuesday, April 26, 2022, in Uintah, Utah. He was born on February 18, 1937, in Honolulu, Hiawii, to Edward Chin and Tamar Wong Luke. Brooks was the first member of his family to graduate from high school and was top of his class. He joined the Marine Corps in July 1952 and actively pursued advanced military training in his career. Our dear Mom, Patricia Ann McClintock, passed peacefully on May 3, 2022, just short of her 93rd birthday, in Mission Viejo, Calif. Sunday was Mother's Day, and the McClintock Family misses her energy and witty sense of humor. She treasured her husband, Gene. She loved and enjoyed her four children, Rocky, Melanie, Harlan, and Sherri. She adored her grandchildren, daughters-in-law, sons-in-law, friends, exercise, and the Lord. The Wyoming Department of Health (WDH) is targeting high blood pressure with a new, free program that includes blood pressure self-monitoring, education and other support.
