  • Community blood drive set for May 15

    The Thermopolis Community Blood Drive is scheduled for Monday, May 15 from 3-7 p.m. at the Hot Springs County Senior Center. The Hot Springs County Hospital Auxiliary is hosting the drive, and the goal is to collect 25 pints of blood.     The 34th annual May “WYO” Quarter Horse Ranch Sale is scheduled for Saturday, May 20, at the Hot Springs County Fairgrounds. The sale is set to begin at 1 p.m., with a performance preview at 9 a.m. Before the sale, on Friday, May 19, the fairgrounds will be home to the “Parade of Geldings,” beginning at 7 p.m. Each gelding will be led around the ring while a video of each horse plays.     The Hot Springs County Memorial Hospital District Board of Directors will have a special meeting at 1 pm. Friday, May 12 in the hospital board room.     Hot Springs County School District #1 Board of Trustees held a special meeting last week to accept resignations and offer initial contracts to incoming teachers. Resignations included Megan Kraushaar as the TMS Lights On site coordinator and Jessica Morris as special education paraprofessional. The board also accepted the resignation of high school English teacher, Alex McLean.     There were a few more personal records than usual set by the high school track team at the Bobcat Invite on Friday, according to Coach Ernie Mecca. The Bobcats saw another 12 for the girls and seven for the boys. Mecca noted the records are due to having such a young, inexperienced team.     The weather finally cooperated for the Bobcat golf team last Thursday as they traveled to Riverton. Coach Jacob Smith said the Riverton course is a tough one, but the boys delivered a fifth place finish with a total score of 376. Hudson Roling led the team with a 78, tying for fifth as an individual. “Hudson (Roling) wasn’t thrilled with his score,” Smith said, “and said he struggled to find the speed of the greens, which looked much faster than they rolled.” Kaylee Smith also netted a top 10 finish, tying for eighth with a score of 100. “She...

  • Gymkhana opens 2017 series

    The 2017 Gymkhana series got underway this Sunday at the fairgrounds. Kids competed in barrel racing, pole bending, flag race, goat tying and dummy roping. Each day of the series will also feature a fun event, and Sunday's was an egg and spoon race.   • Fourth grade experiences Yellowstone Park

    This spring, fourth graders at Ralph Witters Elementary School were once again fortunate to experience two wonderful trips in Yellowstone National Park. Each trip consisted of a four-day, three-night stay in Yellowstone's Lamar Valley at the Buffalo Ranch, the weekends of April 14-17 and April 21-24.     Thursday night saw the annual Thermopolis FFA Banquet, with FFA Alumni providing a milk can dinner at the Hot Springs County agricultural building.
