A verdict in a case against Anthony Haire was reversed, and the case itself remanded for a new trial, following a decision by the Wyoming Supreme Court on Monday. Haire was sentenced about a year ago to 8-10 years with the Wyoming Department of Corrections, on a charge of involuntary manslaughter. He was also given a one-year probation sentence on a reckless endangerment charge. A slide on Thursday afternoon closed a portion of the Black Mountain Oil and Gas Field on public land on the Washakie/Hot Springs county line. According to information from Hot Springs County Deputy Sheriff Jerimie Kraushaar, a call was received about 11 p.m. Saturday from a business owner, who was concerned she had not seen a regular customer, 50-year-old James Michael Pigott of Texas, for a couple days. She also noted his vehicle was located by Anchor Dam. The hotel Pigott was staying at had not heard from him either for a few days. Baker received the sentence in November. However, it was suspended on a split sentence, resulting instead in a short jail sentence, followed by three years of supervised probation. I can’t speak for all senior citizens, but I think many would agree that the two services we most value are those of the senior center and the library. The senior center offers the best lunch deal in town, along with various activities and transportation for those who can’t or don’t drive. The library offers both education and entertainment, with the staff always being friendly and helpful. Once a month they even provide a free dinner along with a classic film. Norton Edgar Gwynn, 93, passed away Thursday, April 20, 2017. He was born in Grass Creek, Wyo., to Edgar and Laura Gwynn on November 10, 1923. Nort attended high school in Thermopolis. There he met the love of his life, Betty Jean Dodge, in 1939. Nort enlisted in the Navy in 1941. He served as an airplane mechanic during World War II in the South Pacific. A man relatively new to Thermopolis, Randy Baker came to town to settle some business following the death of his mother and decided to stay for a while. Precipitation numbers varied between near 250 percent of normal over the Tongue River Drainage in north central Wyoming to near 110 percent of normal over the Lower Green Basin in southwestern Wyoming.
