Thermopolis Police Sgt. Mike Mascorro is in stable condition after an officer-involved shooting on Friday. According to information released by the Thermopolis Police Department (TPD), on Friday, April 28 at approximately 12:37 p.m. there was an officer involved shooting at a residence off of Canyon Hills Road. A $71,880 emergency project with a Colorado rock-scaling company will provide time-sensitive work that began Tuesday to stabilize an active slide just inside the south end of Wind River Canyon near Boysen Dam. Traffic delays of up to 20 minutes are expected during the work. Rock scaling and cleanup are part of the effort being undertaken by Geovert of Broomfield, Colo., with assistance from Wyoming Department of Transportation maintenance workers. Stephanie Logan Petty, 19, beloved daughter, sister, and friend, died Tuesday, April 25, 2023, in Thermopolis, Wyo. The daughter of Mark and Tonya (Vernarsky) Petty, she was born September 26, 2003, in Longmont, Colo. She attended school in Thermopolis, graduating in 2022 from Hot Springs County High School, where she was a National Finalist in Speech and Debate and the programmer for the Robotics Teams. At the April 19 Hot Springs County Travel & Tourism board meeting held at the Quality Inn, Director Jackie Dorothy presented the financial report as Treasurer Audra Dominguez was unable to attend. The most recent deposit of lodging tax revenue was $10,787.78 which was a 13% increase compared to the previous year at the same time. The fiscal year to date lodging tax total was $191,475.75. Bobcat Track and Field team members traveled to Buffalo to compete at the Not-A-Twilight tournament last Friday. The Lady Cats came in 8th, the Bobcats came in 7th and combined they came in 7th. “Our kids went out and competed and posted consistent times and marks. Roedy Farrell tied for 1st in the bareback riding on Saturday with a score of 71, earning 9.5 points, and was second on Sunday with a score of 66, earning 9 points.
