Three-year-old Cora Jo Schwalbe gets a little instruction from auctioneer John Holm as she prepares to display an item up for bid at the Cookie Jar Auction for Alice Oneyear at the VFW Saturday. An astounding $42,000 was raised at the auction with additional donations still coming in. All proceeds go to Oneyear for medical expenses incurred as she battles stage 4 lung cancer. The VFW Auxiliary #2281 is having a Soup Supper on Friday, March 19 at the 302 Broadway from 5-7 p.m. The cost is a donation. There will be a variety of soups and lots of delicious flavors. Wyoming Humanities explored the world of political cartoons as an integral component in the framework of journalism and democracy. The event featured a discussion between two highly regarded cartoonists in the field, Ryan Stolp and Greg Kearney. As part of the event, the public was encouraged to submit captions for two “captionless” cartoons, one each from Stolp and Kearney. Both Sen. Cynthia Lummis and U.S. Rep. Liz Cheney last month introduced bills in their respective chambers to delist the grizzlies in the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem from the Endangered Species act. Betty Ellen Delaney passed away February 11, 2021, in Hill City, Kansas. She was born July 1, 1930, in Rural Osborne County, Kans., to Irvin and Bessie (Doak) Earl. Betty grew up on the family farm outside Alton with her brothers, Bob and Bill. She attended Liberty Bell Country Grade School. George Arvid Bloomquist, 55, passed away on Saturday, February 27, 2021 at home. George was born in Thermopolis on July 11, 1965, to George Martin Bloomquist and Verree June Meeks Apland. He was brought up around the Shoshoni area and attended Shoshoni School for most of his life (except for a short period in Sheridan). George looked fondly on those years when he spent time with his family, played sports, drove his Trans Am, worked out, and gained the valuable skills he would use throughout his life. Donald Scott passed away of natural causes on January 25, 2021. He was born April 12, 1952, in Oconomowoc, Wis., to Dorothy Harris. Dotty, Don and younger sister Brett later lived in Thermopolis where Don graduated from high school in 1970. Don participated in many activities at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, traveling out of town regularly for youth events. At the March Chamber of Commerce meeting under old business, the board voted to approve their 2021 strategic plan. According to Chamber Director Meri Ann Rush, they didn’t change much to it compared to last year with the exception of taking steps to educate the community about all the Chamber’s benefits. The Chamber doesn’t want to be seen as just an organization that holds parades and fundraisers. Rush said there is much more.
