Citizens of Hot Springs County are reminded the new 1 percent specific purpose tax will go into effect April 1. The tax, which was on the ballot in November, adds an additional penny to all purchases in the county to help support the new Hospital District. This will make our sales tax 6 percent, or six-cents on the dollar. Traffic delays of up to 15 minutes have resumed on U.S. 20/Wyoming 789 through Wind River Canyon as scaling of rocks, cleaning culverts, reshaping ditches and other work work continues. Thermopolis Special Olympics Bobcats will be doing their annual Jackalope Jump at Hot Springs County High School March 25, starting at noon. This is the only fundraiser for the local Special Olympics team and they use the funds that are raised to help out the athletes with registration fees, hotel costs, and meal costs throughout the years’ competitions. Milan Galovich, 88, passed away peacefully at his daughter's home in Gilbert, Ariz., March 9, 2017. He was born outside of Hudson, Wyo., in the coal mining camp of "Poposia" on November 21, 1928, to Boja "Bessie" (Radokovich) and Mane "Mike" Galovich. Hubert Donald “Don” Worley, 86, passed away Sunday, March 12, 2017, at the Thermopolis Rehabilitation and Care Center following a period of declining health. Born in Chicago, Ill., on February 15, 1931, he was one of two children of Hubert and Myrtle (Wissman) Worley. A couple weeks ago, tickets went on sale for the annual scholarship raffle hosted by VFW Post 2281. The post annually honors the memory of Sergeant William T. McCormick by providing a scholarship for Hot Springs County High School students in his name. Tickets are $10 each, and are available at the VFW Club, 302 Broadway. The Central Wyoming Cutting Club will host its final cuttings for the year March 16, 17 and 18.
