A $1.09 million project to flatten slopes north of Thermopolis on U.S. Highway 20/Wyoming Highway 789 is expected to begin this week. The Hot Springs County High School Speech and Debate Team had an outstanding showing at the National Qualifying Wind River District Speech and Debate Tournament at Rock Springs High School on February 29 through March 2. The tournament hosted 19 Wind River District schools with competitors of all Wyoming school classifications (1A/2A, 3A, and 4A) mixed together. Private applicator licenses are required for anyone who applies or supervises the application of Restricted Use Pesticides (RUPs). I am disappointed with the way the Town of Thermopolis released the officer cam video of April 28, 2023, regarding the officer-involved shooting. The video was narrated by the Town and stated the officer had permission to cite or arrest. This is misleading at best. I refer you to the October 12, 2023, Independent Record article in which the Wyoming DCI Special Agent report is given in its entirety. Bonita Joan (Blakesley) Crawford, known fondly as "Bonnie Jo", passed away peacefully on February 7, 2024, in Lakewood, Colo., at the age of 87. She was born on June 4, 1936, in Conrad, Mont., to Jack and Claudine (Cox) Blakesley. The family moved to Thermopolis, Wyo., when she was a young girl.
