Hot Springs County Airport is one of 10 Wyoming airports that will be receiving a portion of $7.2 million designated by the U.S Department of Transportation for airport safety and infrastructure. According to the U.S. Secretary of Transportation, Elaine Chao, Hot Springs County Airport will receive $169,386 to fund a new airport master plan or study. Hot Springs County Memorial Hospital has announced tentative dates for their Open House for the new construction of their facilities. CEO Margie Molitor has proposed that the Open House will be on Thursday, April 2nd from 2:30 p.m. until 6 p.m. Molitor wants to give the public access to view the rooms and building before they move into it with equipment and furniture, etc. There will be guides directing the public for tours and will explain the new features. Several high school student athletes were honored with sportsmanship awards during this month’s Hot Springs County School District Board of Trustees meeting. Sterling Gerber was honored for his show of sportsmanship during the boys basketball game with Rocky Mountain on January 17 along with Jarron Mortimore during the game against St. Stephens the same day. Kirby Ditch Irrigation District recently received notice they have been awarded funding for their lower reach piping project from the Bureau of Reclamation as part of more than $40 million in grant funds going to 54 water projects across the West. The total cost of the Kirby Ditch project is a little over $2.2 million and grant monies from the Bureau will cover $737,966. The Bobcat wrestlers had an incredible showing at Wind River High School on Saturday and came home as the 2A West Regional Tournament runner-up champions, along with four individual championships including Riley Shaffer, Logan Cole, Austin Barral and Roedy Farrell. The Lady Bobcats split a pair of games over the weekend, beating Newcastle’s Lady Dogies 49-43 on Friday before falling to the Lady Bearcats of Douglas, on the road, 32-74. Friday’s win over Newcastle was a big one for the team as they came back and beat a team who had defeated them soundly just three weeks ago. The Bobcat Speech and Debate team had another winning tournament last weekend, bringing home first place from the Greybull Forensics Challenge. This is the fourth first place win in 1A/2A for the Bobcats with just two tournaments left before their state tourney. Senior Kyle Mosser led the way for the team taking third place for Drama and first place for Humor as well as garnering the most points for the tourney. Hot Springs County High School’s two robotics teams, 4273 Aluminati and 7283 Fist Full of Axels, competed over Valentine’s Day weekend at the FIRST Tech Challenge, Wyoming State Championships in Casper. Held this year at CY Middle School, the challenge brought robotics teams from all over the state to compete head to head.
