    Mark Dykes, Editor|Feb 21, 2019

Tuesday night, Thermopolis Town Council discussed the possibility of a rate change for sanitation. Mayor’s Assistant Fred Crosby pointed out there is a deficit of more than $24,000 in sanitation, per the January financial statement. In the past, Crosby said, they’ve let it play out until the end of the fiscal year in June, and if they are still in dire straits they may need to make some changes in sanitation and landfill, such as raising the cubic yard rate. Council member Tony Larson que...

Agar noted the House added about $9 million over what the Joint Appropriations Committee — of which he is a member — had proposed, with the Senate cutting about $20 million from the committee’s recommendation, though following further negotiations both chambers wound up with about the same amount the joint commi...

Another busy week in the Wyoming State Legislature saw a lot of movement of bills out of committees and even some being forwarded to the Governor. • Days gone by

    Gene Peterson|Feb 21, 2019

Reflecting on Rex’s Ramblings in last week’s Thermopolis Independent Record, I was the same age and, like in Rex’s article, in the military. The 507th Paratroopers were based in Alliance, Nebraska. We lived on the last street in town; beyond that was an endless prairie of tall, dry grass. Three of us boys were searching for treasures in the prairie and found a small box of matches. Tall, dry grass, small boys and matches spell — well, you guessed it. We touched a small flame to the dry grass; it flared rapidly. We jumped on the fire and put...

  • What to do with the bottles

    Mark Dykes, Editor|Feb 21, 2019

I think I’ve finally reached a turning point with my oldest. I don’t mean he seems to be listening more or fighting less with his brother. This is a bit more subtle — the taste buds. Like many kids I’m sure, Mike used to eat just about everything as long as it was coated in ketchup. It was getting to the point where I had considered starting a massive tomato plantation and manufacturing my own to save on costs and trips to the grocery store. But one day, out of the blue, he declares almost...

  • Not too early to start your preparing for spring garden work

    Feb 21, 2019

Even though the current temperatures may not show it, Spring is right around the corner and now is a good time to start thinking about getting your garden ready for planting. One of the first, and easiest things to do to start preparing is getting out your garden tools and checking them over to make sure they’re in good shape for the start of planting season. Spades and hoes should be sharp to dig more easily and all the tools should be cleaned and ready to go. A lot of seeds don’t do well simply planted in the garden. Starting seedlings a few...

With an offense that didn't quit through four quarters and a defense that kept the pressure on the Worland Warriors, the Bobcats earned a 61-55 victory Saturday evening at home, their first against Worland in seven years. "This was a huge win for our program," coach Shane Corpening said. "It's our first win versus a 3A opponent since 2012 and our first win against Worland since 2012. Truthfully, we didn't have a Herculean effort. Our boys just played consistently well for four quarters. I have...
