Wyoming began taking steps toward normalcy as some counties won permission to reopen restaurants and churches. State officials approved requests from seven counties for county-wide variances from the public health orders that were imposed in mid-March to prevent the spread of coronavirus. Hot Springs County officials presented a request for exemptions and variances from the public health orders issued by state officials. As a result of the increased demand for hand sanitizer, Wyoming Whiskey distillery, in conjunction with other Wyoming distillers, have answered the call. The production of hand sanitizer requires the use of 190 proof alcohol. Wyoming Whiskey stills are not designed to produce alcohol to that proof, so they have produced a base spirit that will be refined at other Wyoming distilleries before being used in the final product. Hot Springs County Memorial Hospital CEO Margie Molitor had to push back their move-in date for their new facility. She said, “We were shooting for a move date of May 5 but this has been moved back.” Molitor says she doesn’t know when the move will actually happen yet. Hot Springs County residents are urged to keep their eyes open for the arrival of their reminder postcard to fill out your response to the 2020 Census. Census takers will begin visiting addresses that do not respond via mail or online at a later date. Wyoming households are continuing to participate in the Census with nearly 45-percent of residents responding. Nationally, however, that number is closer to 54-percent. Nine members of the Bobcat Speech and Debate Team were recently named to the All State team. Those gaining that recognition include Kyle Mosser, Hannah Hu, Jean-Luc Willson, Josiah Butler, Jacob Randall, Aime Robinson, Tyler Kay and Breeze Petty. Ronda Kaye Freel, 60, passed away on her birthday, Friday, May 1, 2020, at Washakie Medical Center in Worland, Wyo., after a battle with cancer. Born in 1960 in Scottsbluff, Neb., she was one of two children of Dale and Evelyn (Warner) Berry. Following high school, she attended Nebraska Western College and the University of Wyoming. James Evan “Jim” Dodds, 63, passed away Wednesday, April 29, 2020, at Hot Springs County Memorial Hospital in Thermopolis. Born August 23, 1956, in Thermopolis, he was the son of Robert and Laura (Beeler) Dodds. He graduated from Thermopolis High School in 1975. As a youth he enjoyed building forts, adventures in Thermopolis, and fishing with his friend, Mark Whitt and his Dad. Bonnie Gay McCoy, 67, passed away Saturday, April 18, 2020, at Hot Springs County Memorial Hospital after a period of declining health. Born June 10, 1952, in Thermopolis, Wyo., she was one of four daughters born to Floyd and Colleen (Artly) Lawrence. Growing up Bonnie was outgoing and a tomboy, always loved being with her dad and doing whatever he was doing. She was a very independent woman. Vonda Lou Ilg Southard, 80, passed away peacefully on April 24, 2020, at Worland Health Care in Worland, Wyo. Vonda was born November 19, 1939, to Ira and Evelyn Kirkpatrick Ilg. She raised six children and taught them to fish, hunt and enjoy the great outdoors. She taught them to enjoy life to the fullest and enjoy life as God gave it to them, the good and the bad. Alvin Eugene "Gene" Delap, 91, passed away Sunday, April 26, 2020, in Weatherford, Texas. Gene was born on August 10, 1928, in Kansas City, Mo., and in 1929 the family moved to Buffalo, Wyo. He attended school in both Buffalo and later in Vancouver, Wash., before moving back to Buffalo where he then worked as a ranch hand until enlisting in the Army in 1950 where he served as a Medic while stationed in South Korea and Japan during the Korean War. The Wyoming Game and Fish Department has completed its investigation into a recent incident where a grizzly bear injured a man in Sunlight Basin northwest of Cody. Last Friday, Spencer Smith of Cody was shed antler hunting in the East Painter Creek Drainage when he was injured by a grizzly bear.
