On January 14, Thermopolis Volunteer Fire Department members voted to appoint Dale Andreen as their new Fire Chief. Previous Fire Chief Mark Collins decided to retire from the position but will still stay involved serving the public. Wyoming Highway Patrol has issued a brief press release regarding the pedestrian fatality that occurred on January 24 in Thermopolis. The release states, a pedestrian identified as Bernadine Blacketer, an 85-year-old female, was crossing the street when she was struck by a vehicle. The driver of the vehicle did not stop after the collision with Blacketer. The Town of Thermopolis installed new playground equipment at the Glade Edward’s Park located at 226 South 3rd Street, which is just east of the railroad tracks. The money to fund this new equipment came in two parts and about $33,958 came from the Glade Edward’s Foundation. The new equipment was added at the south end of the park. Jacqueline Manning, 90, of Thermopolis, Wyo., died January 30, 2025. She was born May 25, 1934, in Hudson, Mich., to Layton and Florence Coman and she spent her childhood living in Michigan. Jackie was baptized on May 3, 1949 at the Church of Christ in Waldron, Mich., at age 14. She graduated from high school in 1952 in Michigan and went to dental hygiene school at Northwestern University. Bob Daniels was born Jan. 11, 1940, in Mullen, Neb., to R. Forrest and Marie Troyer Daniels. They moved to Owl Creek, 27 miles west of Thermopolis, Wyo., in March 1946. He attended grade school in one room, Embar School, and high school at Hot Springs High School in Thermopolis, graduating in 1957. He went one year to Casper College. Joyce Pyatt Casey, 94 years, passed away on January 28, 2025, in Thermopolis, Wyo. Joyce was born on October 9, 1930, in Hutchinson Kan. She married Edward D. Casey on November 1, 1949. They were married 35 years until his passing. Joyce was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Evanston, Wyo., where she lived for many years. Last week, the Hot Springs County High School Bobcats basketball team was lined up to play two top 2A teams, and the number one ranked 3A team in the state. The Cats came into the weekend ranked number one in 2A, and tied for first place in the 2A Northwest with Rocky Mountain. Two games would be on the road, followed by a home game on Saturday. The Hot Springs County High School Lady Cats basketball team, had a full week of tough opponents last week - with away games on Thursday and Friday nights, before a home game on Saturday afternoon. Coming in to the week, the Lady Cats were 7 and 6 in the standings, and tied with Rocky Mountain for first place in the 2A Northwest Quad, at 2 and 0 in the division. Bobcats place eleventh against forty-one teams The Hot Springs County High School Bobcats wrestlers made their annual trek to Riverton last weekend for the Ron Thon Memorial Tournament. The Tournament draws the best wrestlers from around the State of Wyoming, and this year featured forty-one Wyoming teams. The Cats scored 98.5 team points – good enough for a tie for an eleventh place finish in the team standings. The Wyoming Department of Education announced that the four-year on-time high school graduation rate for schools throughout Wyoming remained relatively consistent at 81.6 percent in 2023-24, a slight increase of 0.2 percent from 81.4 percent in 2022-23. For 2023-24, Hot Springs County High School’s graduation rate is 78.7%. In 2022-23 Hot Springs County’s graduation was slightly lower, it was 78.3%.
