The Thermopolis Town Council put the idea of a splash park to rest during their Tuesday meeting. Town Engineer Heath Overfield stood before the council once again and presented the numbers to construct the splash park in the Bicentennial Park located downtown. The unemployment rate continues to rise in the state, the current rate jumped up to 4.3 percent in December 2015 compared to 4.1 percent in November. In most counties the rates followed the normal seasonal pattern. The colder weather causes a loss of seasonal jobs in construction, professional and business services and other sectors. Kathyrn “Kathy” Louise Jones, 74, died Sunday, Jan. 31, 2016, at Hot Springs County Memorial Hospital after a period of declining health. Born April 7, 1941, in Thermopolis, Wyo., she was the daughter of Rowland and Anne (Kowlok) Jones. Graduating high school in 1959 she acquired her BA from the University of Wyoming. For two years she taught in Rock Springs then taught 30 years at Dean Morgan Junior High in Casper as a PE teacher. Kathy returned to Thermopolis in 1998 to care for her mother. John D. Rickman, 80, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 27, 2016, at his home in Thermopolis, after a long illness. Born Nov. 28, 1935, in Springfield, Mo., he was the son of Max A. and Laura E. (Anderson) Rickman. He graduated from high school in Glenrock, Wyo. He soon joined the US Marine Corp in January 1954, serving stateside, then Korea until his discharge in1961. Glidden “Sandy” Sanford, 85, passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 26, 2016. Sandy was born November 28, 1930, in Daniel, Wyo., to Wiley and Dollie (Mayfield) Sanford. He grew up in Thermopolis, where he graduated from Hot Springs County High School in 1949. He enlisted in the Wyoming National Guard, where he served in the 300th Armored Field Artillery Battalion, Battery A.
