    On January 21, Wyoming State Parks District Manager Brooks Jordan presented to the Hot Springs County Commissioners to give an update on the Hot Springs State Park matter regarding the Star Plunge facility.   • Flag pole down

    Last Thursday, contractors from Billings Sign Service of Montana, local business owner Steve Jellis and others collaborated to remove the old flagpole in the downtown square. The effort to do so was tricky and took a fair amount of time, but after careful thought, the group was successful. The flagpole was damaged by a wind event on September 9, 2024.     During a recent meeting, County Planner Les Culliton presented some letters regarding the coming February 4 Hot Springs County Commissioners meeting for the remedy hearing of The Tipi Retreat, Michael and Michele Stevens. One letter is from the Planner’s office and the other from the Land Use Planning Commission. The letters were entered into the record but were not read aloud in the meeting.     Long time Thermopolis resident Bernadine "Bernie" Blacketer was struck and killed by a vehicle being driven on Arapahoe Street last Friday morning. On January 24 around 7 a.m., Thermopolis Police officers responded to the 700 block of Arapahoe Street for the report of an 85-year-old female pedestrian who was struck by a motor vehicle.     At the January 21 Thermopolis Town Council meeting, Mayor Adam Estenson held a public hearing for a variance request for 107 Broadway Street to use an existing foundation and install a modular on top of it. Bernadine (Bernie) was born September 27, 1939, in Mineral Springs N.D. on the Schaff family homestead to Victor and Matilda (Daum) Schaff. She was the oldest of three girls. In 1946 they moved to Thermopolis and she started the 3rd grade at the Hill School, graduating in 1957 from Hot Springs County High School.     Mary Jane Tschiffely, 91, passed away peacefully on January 25, 2025. She was born in Baggs, Wyo., on September 23, 1933, to Phineas Vinton Lord and Elsie Henrietta Noltensmeier. Mary was the eighth of nine children. Her father Phineas passed away when she was a small child, and her mother married Harry Moore. Together Elsie and Harry had one more daughter.
