    The Thermopolis Independent Record won first place in major awards for Advertising Excellence in the Division B category at the 2024 Wyoming Press Association (WPA) convention held recently in Cheyenne. The IR also received an honorable mention in major awards for Typographic Excellence. The awards were judged on papers dated November l, 2023 and October 3l, 2024.     The Hot Springs County High School Bobcat Wrestling Team was in Shoshoni last weekend to compete in the Clash of the Crossroads Tournament. In a tune-up for that event, the team first took on Glenrock, at home, in a Dual on Thursday night.     The Hot Springs County High School Bobcats Basketball team traveled to Powell last weekend to compete at the Big Horn Classic Tournament. The event was played in Powell and Cowley, with all of the Cats games scheduled at Powell High School. These would be the last non-conference games of the season.     The Lady Cats wrestlers had two meets last week, beginning on Thursday night, at home for a Dual with Glenrock, and then moving on to the Clash at the Crossroads Tournament in Shoshoni on Friday/Saturday. The Lady Cats team defeated Glenrock 17 to 6, and finished in second place at Shoshoni, with a team score of 118, to Shoshoni’s 131.     Last weekend, the Hot Springs County High School, Lady Cats Basketball team, hosted their second tournament in as many weeks. With twelve teams in competition, the Big Horn Classic was played in Thermopolis, and in Worland. On Friday, January 17 the Lady Cats first saw the JV team from Cody. In a close game, the Cody Broncs were victorious – winning by a score of 44 to 36.     Last Saturday, 22 member of the Thermopolis Wrestling Club attended the Rocky Mountain Nationals Wild West Championship Tournament at the Ford Wyoming Center in Casper. The tournament brought 114 teams and over 1,200 wrestlers from surrounding states.
