The first baby of 2022 born at Hot Springs Health was a girl, Lailyn Rae Lamb. She was born at 1:15 p.m. on January 6. She was 18.5 inches, 6 pounds, 12 ounces. Two residential fires happened in Thermopolis last week that displaced at least one homeowner and left a dog dead. One of the fires was located at a residence on Circle Drive and started Friday, January 7 at 11:56 p.m. The other fire was at a residence on Lane 5 and started Saturday, January 8 at 8:16 p.m. Thermopolis Volunteer Fire Department Chief Mark Collins said the cause of the fires has not been determined. At the January 4 Thermopolis Town Council Meeting at Town Hall, they held a brief meeting. Town Engineer Anthony Barnett said that he checked some manholes on Peppermint Lane and measured the sewers. Hot Springs County Assessor Daniel Webber has announced that currently qualified Hot Springs County veterans or their surviving spouse should contact the Assessor’s Office by telephone to renew their Veteran’s Exemption for 2022 on their property taxes. Alfred "Al" James Jackson passed on January 4, 2022, just shy of his 102 birthday. Al was born in Burlington, Wyo., February 16, 1920, to William and Christine (Peterson) Jackson. Al was one of seven children to bless the family and had fond memories of his childhood on the family farm. When Al was 15 the family moved to the South Fork of the Shoshone River outside of Cody. Wallace "Wally" Edwin VanAntwerp, 87, went to be with the Lord, on January 6 2022, in Thermopolis, Wyo. On November 14, 1934, Wally was born in Richardton, N.D. He was 1 of 8, he had 5 sisters, and 2 brothers, born to John Randoff and Olivia Eva(Barrette) VanAntwerp. He was raised in Helena, Mont., and graduated from the Catholic High School in 1954. Catherine Lois "Cathy" Drageset, 70, passed away Sunday, January 9, 2022, at her residence in Thermopolis, Wyo., after a period of declining health. Born November 16, 1951, in Thermopolis, she was one of four children of Saul and Jene (Spinus) Larson. She worked in her parent's drugstore for several years. A caregiver for much of her life, she later acquired her CNA degree of which she most proud. Cathy was a member of the VFW Auxiliary, Eagles Lodge and BPOE. Her joy was any outdoor activities... The Lady Bobcat basketball players traveled to Pinedale to go up against Pinedale, Lyman and Rawlins this past weekend. To start the weekend, the Lady Cats went up against the second ranked Lyman. The Bobcat Varsity Boys Basketball team came back from the holiday break to start their weekend with a slow start against Pinedale last week, with a score of zero at the end of the first quarter. Remains of missing Texas woman found in Cody POWELL (WNE) — The remains of a 29-year-old woman who’d been missing for weeks were found Monday in Cody. On Wednesday, police identified the deceased as Rachel Sirman of Texas. Cody police said they’d had “intermittent contact” with Sirman between September 2020 and June 2021, describing her as transient. Big Horn Bow Hunters held a tournament on Saturday, January 8 at the HSC Fair Building. Organizer Randy Welfl said they have shoots there every Thursday night at 7 p.m. until April 28. They shoot the "450 Vegas" which is 15 rounds of three arrows. This type of archery tournament has been around since 1962.
