During the Town Council meeting Tuesday evening, Resolution No. 531 was approved, authorizing submission of a pre-application from to the State Loan and Investment Board for a loan through the State Revolving Fund on behalf of the governing body for the Town of Thermopolis. After swearing in new county commissioner Phil Scheel on Tuesday morning, the commissioners got right down to work, starting out the new year. John Lumley was elected to continue as commission chairman, backed up by Tom Ryan as vice chairman. The Board of Trustees of Hot Springs County Memorial Hospital, recently announced Margie Molitor, FACHE, accepted the permanent position of CEO beginning Jan. 1. In June Molitor was brought in as the interim CEO by HealthTechS3, which contracts with the hospital, following the resignation of Robin Roling. Molitor began her career as a registered nurse, and was a chief nursing officer for 14 years followed by 12 years as a CEO. If you happen to be at the Hot Springs County Senior Center for lunch, more than likely you're going to see Florence Daugherty, better known as "Toots," working. At 95 years old, Daugherty has been helping out at the center for over 20 years. She recalled coming to Thermopolis when she was 68, though she was born in Hot Springs County and her parents, Jesse and Grace Walker, were the first people married in the county. I have decided that my New Year’s resolution is to buy life insurance for only $30 a month. It will be enough for my loved one’s (the ones that I only see once or twice a year) to hopefully bury me. Richard Eugene Parke, 90, passed away on Dec. 11, 2016. He was born to his proud parents, Richard Eugene Parke and Lousetta Brandenburg Parke, in Valley Park, Mo., on Oct. 5, 1926. Edward Allen "Big Ed" Wingert, 63, passed away Dec. 31, 2016, at his home in Thermopolis after a long illness. Born Feb. 10, 1953, in Riverton, Wyo., he was one of seven children of Earl and Dorothy (Lebsock) Wingert. Ed graduated from Riverton High School. Paul King Jones, 80, passes away on Dec. 29, 2016, in Cheyenne, Wyo. He was born in Thermopolis, Wyo., on September 18, 1936, to the late Paul Adell and Mary Marie (Kiraly) Jones of Thermopolis, Wyo. Paul grew up on the east bank of the Big Horn River near Kirby, Wyo. The family raised a variety of livestock and maintained a substantial garden. The Bighorn Bowhunters plan to kick off 2017 with their annual New Year’s Shoot Sunday at the Hot Springs County Fairgrounds. Jan. 8 The event features two competitions with the 450 Vegas Shoot in the fair building and the 28 Target 3D Shoot in the multi-purpose building. The Vegas shoot uses regular targets while the 3D shoot uses animal targets. Shoot times are at 8:30 a.m., 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. The shoot is open to anyone.
