This month, students in Thermopolis FFA travelled to Douglas for a two-day conference. While some attended the Finding Inspiration Reaching Excellence (FIRE) conference, others attended the Chapter Presidents Conference. While FIRE presents leadership workshops and helps students get the most from FFA, CPC focuses on helping students be more effective leaders for their local chapters. Tuesday evening, the Hot Springs County Memorial Hospital Board of Directors accepted the audit for the financial statements of the business-type activities of the hospital, as of and for the years ended June 30, 2017, and 2016. At their meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 21, Thermopolis Town Council, with council member Tony Larson absent, approved bonuses of $1,000 per person for 29 full-time town workers and $500 per person for two part-time workers, for a total $30,000 in insurance rebates/bonuses. Tuesday saw the installation of new playground equipment at Bicentennial Park. The Thermopolis Town Council chose to order the equipment in August, after a slide on the old equipment was damaged and determined unsafe to use. The Thermopolis Police Department recently received a report from a local bank regarding fake $100 bills circulating in the area. The bills have been found in other locations in Wyoming as well. The bills are easily identified through Chinese characters located on the front and back sides of the bills, as well as pattern of black double lines in the corner. Last Friday and Saturday, the Wyoming Republican Party's State Central Committee met in Thermopolis. Though the full data has not been received, preliminary information shows that at least one subject was cited for selling alcohol to a minor. One of the first things one might notice upon visiting Kay Bjorklund's residence at the Pioneer Home is the abundance of pictures decorating her walls. Juniors Chandler Maddock and Jeffery VanAntwerp, and senior Noah Schwalbe have been selected as Wyoming Coaches Association All-State players for 2A football. Friday afternoon, the Big Horn Basin Nature and Discovery Center Joint Powers Board hosted a public forum regarding the Children’s Nature Discovery Area of the center. This year, the Thermopolis Community Fund and People For People are bringing the Christmas Tree auction to the downtown area on Dec. 9. The tree auction, done through the community fund, had previously been at the Wyoming Dinosaur Center.
