Monday mornings Tricia McPhie, the maternal child health nurse with Hot Springs County Public Health, regularly meets with four moms to provide information and discussion through a program called Baby Steps. McPhie explained Baby Steps began about a year ago as a breastfeeding support group for mothers, then as the kids got older it "blossomed" into an hour of education, support and socialization for moms. A group of students at Hot Springs County High School is currently working on a "tiny house" as part of the school's new Trades class. Teacher Britton Van Heule explained an Industrial Arts teacher could not be found, so Principal, Breez Longwell Daniels, asked him what he could do. Thus the Trades class was created this past fall. Friday night's game against Rawlins was much different than the Thermopolis Boys Basketball team was expecting, Coach Kevin Gerber said of the Bobcats' 60-19 loss against the Outlaws. Roads were closed for over five hours through Wind River Canyon on Saturday, after a wreck that occurred at a 2:20 p.m. at milepost 116 on Highway 20 in Fremont County, inside the north tunnel in the canyon. A jackknifed semi tractor-trailer blocked both lanes of travel. The roads were closed until the wreckers removed the damaged vehicles. Police, fire and emergency crews respond to an accident at Sixth and Amoretti shortly after 5:30 p.m. Monday. The second annual Brenna’s Banquet will be Feb. 10, but tickets sales have already begun. The event is in memory of Brenna Michelle Rankin, who passed away on March 16, 2016, after a battle with cancer. Last Thursday, several vehicles were parked in the 400 block of Broadway, their occupants in Thermopolis Town Hall for a pre-bid meeting regarding the water line replacement project. Town Engineer Anthony Barnett explained the project had to be advertised to meet the funding agency requirements, and the pre-bid meeting was mandatory so people know what they’re dealing with as this is not a typical water line replacement. Last week, the Thermopolis boys JV basketball team had a rough time with a 58-40 loss to Worland and a 54-29 lost to Buffalo. Monday night at the Thermopolis Chamber of Commerce meeting, the board approved a motion to get involved as a community liaison for the upcoming Cycle Yellowstone event on Sunday, Aug. 12. Among the residents at The Pioneer Home is Elsie McMichael. Now 90 years old, McMichael came from a family of 15 and was born in McLaughlin, S.D. Though her mother passed away when she was just a baby, her sister-in-law took her in and raised her in Isabel, S.D. It was another busy weekend for the varsity boys basketball team, taking on Lander Friday night and travelling to face Big Piney Saturday. Friday night's game went into overtime after a three-pointer from Lander near the end of regulation play tied things up at 42 points.
