Monday in Hot Springs District Court, Hugo A. Luna pleaded not guilty — through an interpreter — to felony charges of first-degree attempted murder and kidnapping. The charges stem from a Friday, April 13 incident, during which Luna allegedly attempted to kill a woman who he had been traveling with for several days. As of last Thursday, Trenda Moore has been named director of the Hot Springs County Senior Center. Moore said the decision came from the board, though she had been serving as interim director since the resignation of Lisa Pierce earlier this year. After things got a bit settled, Moore said, she chose to apply for the director position. The 2018 Summer Wyoming Senior Olympics will be hosted at Laramie Aug. 2-4, and four local residents are among those competing in several events. T.J. Tuesday evening, the Red Lane Watershed Improvement District Board of Directors, consisting of Harold Hutson, Melanie Valentine and Tom Ream, approved the proposed fiscal year 2018-19 budget. In recognition of the 2016 centennial for The Swinging Bridge in Hot Springs State Park, lights were placed along the bridge to provide a new look for this icon of the park and town. In recent weeks, however, the bridge has not been lit as it should as people have been stealing the bulbs and cutting wires. At the Tuesday meeting of Hot Springs Travel and Tourism, Director Amanda Moeller reported a bit lower deposit of lodging tax receipts compared to this time last fiscal year. The July deposit this fiscal year was $13,359.59, compared to $15,997.24 in July of the 2017-18 fiscal year. Last week, a few calls came in to the Hot Springs County Law Enforcement Center regarding sick wildlife. Though the animals could not immediately be located and confirmed they had Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD), Game Warden Benge Brown said the county is one of the more prevalent areas for the sickness.
