AARP Wyoming announced Tuesday that Thermopolis resident Kay Bjorklund has been named the Andrus Award winner for the State of Wyoming. Bjorklund was one of three finalists for the award, along with Jody Lowe of Laramie, and Judy Weickum of Cheyenne. In all, nine Wyomingites were nominated for the award with the finalists being announced in September through a series of videos on Facebook documenting the work of the finalists. This Saturday Thermopolis will be home to the Bobcat Cross Country Invite, beginning at 10 a.m. at the golf course. During Tuesday night’s meeting of the Hot Springs County Memorial Hospital Board of Trustees, CEO Margie Molitor announced news from the USDA. The hospital had applied for a USDA loan of over $21 million for the renovation and expansion, and Molitor informed the board that the money had been approved. According to Dusty Lasseter, Bear Wise community coordinator with the Wyoming Game and Fish Department, grizzly bears have been caught in western Hot Springs County for livestock depredation. Lasseter did not have any exact dates to share, but noted two bears were trapped and relocated. During Tuesday’s meeting of Hot Springs Travel and Tourism, Director Amanda Moeller reported a small decrease in the fiscal year 2018-19 lodging tax receipts compared to the FY 2017-18. According to the receipts, the current fiscal year total for September was $19,917.98, compared to the $20,092.93 the previous year, a decrease of $174.95 or one percent.
