Members of the Hot Springs County High School Spanish Club spent Spring Break on a trip to the Dominican Republic. These trips outside the country are done every two years - the last one being to Peru - and give students a chance to experience another culture while also working on their language skills. Tuesday night the Thermopolis Town Council received an update on the Thermopolis Golf Course from Jason Ciz and Joey Johnson. Ciz noted the fundraiser for the course scheduled for March 9 has been moved to May 4. As far as progress on getting a restaurant at the course, Ciz said the person they had been visiting with backed out so they will be advertising again. At Tuesday’s meeting of Hot Springs Travel and Tourism, Director Amanda Moeller reported there is continued decline in the lodging tax receipts. “We took a pretty big hit again this month,” Moeller said. Receipts were down 41 percent compared to last year. Last month’s deposit also showed a decrease of 14 percent from the previous year, and Moeller further pointed out that of the past nine months, seven have ben lower than last year. We're getting a bit more sunshine these days and with it the high school tracksters are getting ready for the 2019 season, with the first practice on March 11. This year there is a change in coach, with Aimee Kay taking over for Ernie Mecca, who retired last year.
