Last weekend, the Thermopolis High School JV and freshman basketball teams traveled to take on Worland Thursday and hosted Buffalo at home Friday. The JV fell to Worland 66-38, and to Buffalo 59-26. Tuesday night during the Thermopolis Town Council meeting, there was lengthy discussion regarding the pay Town employees receive. The discussion was initiated by Town Mechanic Joe Mounts, who expressed concern regarding how hours are handled and paid out. On March 16, 2016, two-year-old Brenna Michelle Rankin passed away at her home after a battle with cancer. Next month, a banquet will help raise money for a scholarship in her name. Brenna’s mother, Sara Ford-Rankin said proceeds from the event, Brenna’s Banquet, will go to the Brenna Rankin Memorial Scholarship, available for any current student of the Risen Son Christian School. Recently opening its doors at 215 South Fifth is Grandma’s Secondhand Palace. The store came into being after a benefit yard sale. Owner Kathy Najar explained her son, Shawn Goodman, was injured in September while he was cutting wood for personal use in the Bighorn Mountains. A tree fell on him, breaking both femurs and a couple discs in his back. Najar held a benefit yard sale for Goodman, and the community responded with several donated items. Thursday evening at the Thermopolis-Hot Springs Chamber of Commerce Board Meeting, the board received an update on the city maps. These maps feature Thermopolis on one side and Hot Springs County on the other, with advertisements outlining each. This weekend was a struggle for Thermopolis High School Boys Basketball, as they came away with losses to Lander, 68-41, and Lovell, 69-43. Coach Kevin Gerber said Lander came out as a real “run-and-gun, shoot ‘em up type team. Monday afternoon in Hot Springs District Court, Lane Gunkel was sentenced to a period of seven to nine years in the Wyoming State Penitentiary. During the Town Council meeting Tuesday evening, Resolution No. 531 was approved, authorizing submission of a pre-application from to the State Loan and Investment Board for a loan through the State Revolving Fund on behalf of the governing body for the Town of Thermopolis.
