The first barrel of bourbon whiskey was filled at Wyoming Whiskey in July 2009, and it was announced the business would start selling its small-batch bourbon Dec. 1, 2012. Over three years later, the bourbon is still a popular product and the distillery recently filled its 8,000th barrel; as with the rest of the whiskey, it will be ready to bottle in five years. Wednesday, May 4 in Washakie County Fifth Judicial District Court, Anthony Haire of Worland was sentenced to 8-10 years with the Wyoming Department of Corrections. The sentence is for a charge of manslaughter, stemming from an April 13, 2015 incident during which Haire shot and killed his stepfather-in-law, Jamye Don SoRelle. On Friday, the Hot Springs County High School Track and Field Team competed in Thermopolis for the Bobcat Invite. Coach Ernie Mecca expressed his appreciation to the members of the school community and the town for helping at the meet. Recently, Hot Springs County partnered with WyT2/LTAP, the local tech transfer through the engineering department at University of Wyoming. Road and Bridge Supervisor Dave Schlager explained a study was done to establish some engineered speed limits on area roads. Visitors to the buffalo pasture in Hot Springs State Park might notice a couple smaller additions these past few weeks, as two of the cows have calved. Assistant Superintendent John Fish said buffalo breed in private and calve in private, so seeing a live birth, while not impossible, would certainly be very rare; in 24 years, he has never seen one.
